Youth Ministry

St. Brigid Youth Ministry is committed to the reality that young people are an important and integral part of our parish community.

We affirm the gifts of our youth and we foster opportunities for young people to share their gifts with the larger community. The spiritual and social needs of the youth are to be met with the committed leadership, guidance, and support of our parish adults. Through a variety of programs, events, and outreach, we seek to draw young people into responsible participation in the life, work, and mission of the parish community.

  3. To foster the total personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

J.A.M (Jesus & Mission)

J.A.M meets once a week with the purpose to plan and provide teens with opportunities to encounter Jesus Christ by challenging them to live for Him through inspiring talks and dynamic music. Events include mini-retreats, once-a-month Friday night gatherings, and lock-ins that allow high school and middle school youth to communicate their faith in God with one another.

An example of J.A.M-in-action is described best in this recent article from Catholic News Service posted on CatholicPhilly.com:

The “V Encuentro” process is emphasizing evangelization and the call of every baptized Catholic to be a missionary disciple of God’s love.

J.A.M. is comprised of youth who are dedicated to provide the fulfillment of basic human needs to our brothers and sisters, and the community, as well as educate others about service through mission work, with the will of God through commitment and teamwork.

Summer Mission Project

Our Mission Project is a week-long summer project bringing youth together to learn about social justice and perform community service city-wide.

Steubenville’s Youth Conferences

These conferences are focused in bringing high school students into a life changing relationship with God and serving those who serve them. These conferences are specialized to address the resources and needs of today’s Catholic youth, organized on a national level. With an exciting lineup of speakers, musicians, and presenters, the High School Youth Conferences will challenge Catholic youth to stand firm in their faith; rely upon the awesome power of Jesus Christ who is their guide, friend and Savior; and, to show that faith to the world.

Youth Ministry Advisory Core

The Youth Ministry Advisory Core is entrusted with the St. Brigid mission statement as an integral part of a Comprehensive Youth Ministry Program. Its core includes the Youth Minister, and a diversity of adults and young adults. The advisory core not only advises its implementation as a whole, but also supports its youth ministries with prayer, service, and advocacy.

Youth Nights

Youth meet weekly not only for building friendship and community, but also for strengthening their faith and understanding of their Catholic religion, with teachings using media and scriptures.

Youth Retreats

St. Brigid schedules a retreat for Middle School and High School once a year. These retreats are created age-appropriately, with a theme and spiritual message in light of the gospel for the spiritual growth of it youth. These retreats are off-site. Please contact the parish office for further information.

Opportunities For Youth To Minister

At St. Brigid, there are many ministries in which youth can minister and serve the Lord’s people, both youth and adults. From liturgies to youth events and faith formation, our youth can use their talents, skills and gifts as they grow in God’s grace and in their search to make a difference in this world.

We are blessed in our St. Brigid community with a very active youth ministry.

It is said that our youth are the future of the Church; and at St. Brigid, we offer several ministries in our worship life and social life, in which our youth can participate.

For more information, contact Dannel Rodriguez at 210.455.4028.

Vocations

“The discernment of a vocation is above all the fruit of an intimate dialogue between the Lord and his disciples. Young people, if they know how to pray, can be trusted to know what to do with God’s call.”
—Pope Benedict XVI, Response to questions by the bishops of the United States in Washington, D.C., April 16, 2008

St. Brigid provides opportunities for youth and young adults to discern their interest in religious life. Once a year, a Vocations Mass is held on a Sunday evening. Brothers and Sisters are invited from the Archdiocese to be available for questions and answers.
