Social Ministries & Organizations
We have several organizations at St. Brigid that participate in the life of the parish, offering support through time, talent and treasure, to many of our parish events.
If you are interested in becoming involved any of these ministries or organizations, please feel free to contact the person listed or call Mary Ann Skilling, Coordinator of Social Services, at 210-696-0896, ext. 205.
Catholic Ladies Society
The St. Brigid Catholic Ladies Society membership is open to women over the age of 18. The Society aids the entire community of St. Brigid in their spiritual and charitable growth. In addition, the Society enhances the social life of the entire family, promotes fellowship and Christian love, and performs selected works of charity. The Society awards scholarships to deserving high school students. These scholarships are usually available from late March to end of April each year and can be picked up in the parish office or downloaded by going to the flyers page of our website and checking for availability under the Social Services Ministry heading.
The St. Brigid Catholic Ladies Society also sponsors various parish-wide events: annual pancake breakfast, baked good sales and an annual Valentine’s Day dance to raise funds for their charitable giving program. The Society meets every second Tuesday of the month (except August) at 7:00 pm in the Church Nursery.
Guadalupanos Society of St. Brigid (Our Lady of Guadalupe Ministry)
The mission of this ministry is building and spreading devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. This group is made up of active members of St. Brigid parish and invites anyone interested in serving in the ministry to be a part of their prayer and devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe. They pray the rosary after the 8:00 am Bilingual Mass on the second Sunday of each month in the Marian or Day Chapel, and participate in other forms of adoration and activities, as well. This group sponsors an annual Bunco event, usually in the month of May, and a Diez y Siez dance on the Friday or Saturday closest to September 16. On December 12, a fiesta is put on free of charge to the parish, following a Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. See ‘Special Parish Events’ for more information on this event. The board and membership meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6:00 and & 7:00 pm, respectively.
Knights of Columbus Council #11596
The Knights of Columbus is a National Catholic Fraternal Organization, and St. Brigid Council #11596 is dedicated to providing family and service activities that benefit the community of St. Brigid Parish. It holds a monthly taco sale, barbeque dinner sales, etc., to raise funds for college scholarships for the youth of our parish. These scholarships are usually available to be applied for from late March to end of April each year. During this time, applications are available for pick up in the parish office or by going to the flyers page of our website and checking under the Social Services Ministry heading.
