Faith Formation for Children & Youth
We offer catechesis in the Catholic Faith for children and youth in a loving and safe environment.
Catechesis is provided by volunteer catechists who feel called to this ministry. Materials used adhere to all mandates of the Archdiocese. Certification of catechists, even those who are professional teachers, is strongly encouraged. If you love working with children or youth, please go to our Volunteer Opportunities page to see what we have to offer you on your faith journey.
Catechetical sessions run during the school calendar year. (We begin in September and end in May.) We encourage parents/guardians to build community with other parents and to take advantage of adult faith formation available during the children’s sessions.

Adult Time/Parent Time
Adult formation groups meet during your child’s Faith Formation sessions. All parents/guardians are encouraged to participate. We never “graduate” from the need to keep our faith mature and appropriate to our age. Be a model for your children that faith growth is a lifelong process.
Take time to visit the session while your child(ren) is also in session:
-
- Sunday, 9:15-10:15 am, Kildare Room
- Sunday, 2:00-3:15 pm, Deacon Frisina Library
- Tuesdays, 6:30-7:45 pm, McKenna Bldg., Room 206
Parents preparing children for First Reconciliation/First Eucharist: Please attend at least 3 sessions.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Ages 5 to 9: Sundays at the 8:00 am, 10:30 am & 12:30 pm Masses
The children come to the altar for a blessing before processing to the Juleen Chapel to explore the readings at their level. Children return to Mass in time for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Parents are invited to accompany their children the first few times they come. The materials used for Liturgy of the Word with Children are generally not appropriate for children younger than 5 years. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the nursery for children 4 and under.
Special Needs
In their “1978 Pastoral Statement on Persons with Disabilities,” the United States Catholic Bishops state that “catechesis for individuals with disabilities should be integrated with the normal catechetical programs of the parish.”
Therefore, children who have disabilities are encouraged to participate as much as possible in the regular classroom setting, the liturgical setting and social settings.

Faith Formation for Children under Joint Custody
We work with families whose children split time with separated parents. Don’t allow this challenge to prevent you from enrolling them for faith formation at St. Brigid.
Scholarships Available
Faith Formation scholarships are available upon request for children in Pre-K 4 through Grade 12. Your children’s faith development is living and growing. Living and growing things need on-going nurture. Don’t let cost prevent you from signing them up for formation at St. Brigid. See Sister Gemma for more information.
