ARCHBISHOP’S APPEAL EASTER UPDATE
The 2021 Archbishop’s Appeal for Ministries: Enabling Life-Changing Acts of Mercy
The Lenten and Easter seasons rightfully have a focus on acts of mercy, as we are called to give thanks for God’s great mercy upon us by showing mercy to others. The Archbishop’s Appeal for Ministries offers us a wonderful opportunity to do just that. The Appeal supports more than 30 vital ministries supporting brothers and sisters of all walks of life across the Archdiocese of San Antonio. In the process, it enables countless spiritual and corporal works of mercy that can have a huge impact on someone’s life.
To see your life-changing act of mercy at work, consider this example from the Guadalupe Community Center:
One day, the Guadalupe Community Center received a phone call from an elderly couple in urgent need. Felix had been laid off; his wife Lydia was struggling in her battle with terminal cancer. In dire financial straits, they had not eaten in two days.
The Adopt-A-Senior program of Catholic Charities is supported by gifts to the Archbishop’s Appeal. It pairs compassionate volunteers with senior citizens throughout the community.
Lydia spoke tearfully with Lupe, an Adopt-A-Senior program coordinator. Quickly, staff assembled food, toiletries and other basics and delivered it curbside to their home.
The program is especially dedicated to serving isolated seniors who are ill or unable to leave their homes due to COVID-19, disability, or lack of transportation.
St. Paul tells Timothy very simply: “Be rich in good works to win the life that is true life.” This year, Archbishop Gustavo invites our parish to focus on a new goal, parish participation of 25%. As we the Catholic community continue to offer ministries that exemplify Christ’s love, we invite you to pray and make a gift at any level your circumstances permit. Your participation is what matters most.
When supporting the Appeal, you can choose to make a one-time gift, a monthly pledge through the end of 2021, or a recurring monthly gift (no end date until you specify). To make your gift or pledge:
• Text the word “APPEAL” to (210) 750-6712
• Go online to www.archsa.org/appeal
• Use the Appeal envelope sent to your home or found at the Church exit near the bulletins.
Be sure you select our parish for credit, even if your gift is anonymous. Thank you for imitating Jesus by your generosity as we work to further the Gospel message, serving one another in love, compassion, and unity.
