It is in Baptism that one is welcomed into a community of faith. As a parish community, we welcome new members. Parents participate in preparation sessions for the Sacrament of Baptism, preferably before the child is born. Godparents are encouraged to attend the preparation sessions. The parents must live within St. Brigid Parish boundaries or have permission from their home parish to have the child baptized outside their parish boundaries. To sign up for baptism classes, call the parish office.
At St. Brigid, we offer opportunities for your child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism through your participation in preparation classes and a community celebration. Following is some important information to help you in your journey through this process:
Parents must provide their child’s original certified birth certificate – from the State Department of Health – not the hospital copy. A photocopy will be made by a qualified staff member, and the original returned to the parents. No faxed copies will be accepted.
Although, the traditional Godfather and Godmother are encouraged, only one
qualified Catholic sponsor is required. Qualified sponsors or “Godparents" are
required to:
A. Be "practicing" Roman Catholics.
B. Be at least 16 years of age, and have received the Sacrament of
Confirmation; and if married, married in the Catholic Church.
C. Not be the parents of the child.
D. Attend a preparation class for infant baptism.
All parents and godparents/sponsors, Christian witnesses, and proxies must attend a baptism class, and are encouraged to do so before the birth of their child. Individuals who take their class at a parish other than St. Brigid must have of that parish fax proof of the class on Church letterhead to St. Brigid at (210)696-7319. No faxed copies from individuals will be accepted.
Parents residing within another Parish’s boundaries may have their child baptized at St. Brigid with written permission from the pastor of that parish. Permission letters must be on Church letterhead, with the Church seal, and mailed or faxed from their parish.
Once all necessary documents are provided, a baptism date can be set. To do so, please call Virginia at (210)696-0896, ext. 1000.
1. Prior registration for a class is required. Class will not be held if
